Holiday in a Nutshell

Alright, you've officially been neglected, but today is the day you will finally be able to see the long awaited pictures of the Worthen family over the holidays. I realize that it as already February, but I'm sure you are missing Christmas, so we'll take you back there!

Before we left on vacation for Arizona and New Mexico, we spent some quality time teaching Jay how to make sugar cookies. It was an adventure, and we came out of the whole ordeal with some cute pictures and some delicious cookies. In fact, they were so delicious I'm going to give you all the link to the recipe.

Arizona was filled with adventures. Jay got sick and just kept getting sicker until he sounded like Darth Vader when he breathed. We opted to take him to the emergency room (I wanted to wait another day) and it's a good thing we took him in. He had croup pretty badly and they took him straight back to the ER because he wasn't getting enough oxygen. I was under the impression that we would have to sit and wait for 4 hours only for the doctor to tell us to take him home and use a humidifier. Apparently I was wrong and I felt like such a bad mother because I was going to wait til the next day to bring him in. After a long night in the hospital with numerous breathing treatments for Jay and a lack of attention from doctors they admitted him to the hospital because he wasn't improving. However, the hospital was out of beds in the pediatric unit and we were left in the emergency room for many more hours. Long story short, Jay improved enough and we finally got to take him back to my grandparents house without having child protective services called on us for trying to get our kid out of the hospital.

We were happy to see lots of family in Arizona, but it was sad that they didn't get to see the usual Jay that is full of energy. We also stopped by my friend Rachael's house in Phoenix and hung out with their family for a little while. Rachael's son is a year older than Jay and loves to play with Jay. Their son was kind enough to show Jay around the back yard in his Mustang convertible. I can't believe how good he could drive it! Jay had a blast!

After Arizona, we headed to New Mexico to spend Christmas with Chad's family. They were overjoyed to have a small child at their house for Christmas and thus he got spoiled rotten. Here are a few pictures Christmas and our visit to Albuquerque.

The treats Jay left for Santa, Santa loves Diet Coke.

The next morning, Jay was so excited for his ridiculous amount of toys thanks to both grandparents. He really loved opening presents (even helping Barb by opening some presents for the neighbors). We spent the day playing with all Jay's goodies, hanging out with the family, and watching Polar Express (hoping it would be the last time Jay would make us watch it this season, but we were wrong).

Coming soon: Jay's 2nd birthday and other fabulous things!

Jay's Sledding Adventure

We were so excited to take Jay sledding in Tooele because he had never been sledding before or even played in the snow. (He always seems to have a cold when there is snow and we're reluctant to take him outside.) We thought Jay would love it, but we were very wrong. He hated the snow. The snow was hard to walk in and in all his winter get-up he had a hard time picking up the foam football he insisted on carrying. Chad took him own the hill in the sled and he screamed the entire way down. I think Jay lasted a total of about 7 minutes in the snow before we got tired of his whining and took him inside. Maybe we'll work on him and take him to play in the snow more often. What kid doesn't like playing in the snow?
