We found the camera cord. While I'm sifting through pictures of cute kids, here is a sneak peek of what we've done so far in the family room. It's not much, but we've committed to the curtains (lovingly made by my mom) and everything else is in the works.
And I know you're thinking, "how in the world did that Southwestern kiva fireplace sneak its way into the house without Darbie noticing and vetoing said house?" The world may never know. We're experimenting with ways to downplay the "southwestern-ness", any suggestions?

I like your curtains. The print is really cute! As for the fireplace...it's kind of neat...all those ledges for your pictures. Just view it as no need to hang shelves. :)
I love the curtains! You seem to have a modern thing going on, which I love. We seem to have similar taste.
As for the fireplace, I also love the ledges, but "as it" it is southwestern looking. You could paint the fireplace the same color as the wall, and then I am thinking some sort of "pattern" for the top part with the ledges.
Could you make it more modern by painting squares with rounded corners on the top in blue and brown? The squares would be the same dimensions as the ledges--and then you could put the pictures in front of the squares?
For example, you would have the ledges, but you would have squares/rectangles painted that are 4-5 high and 5 across. It would square off the look vertically and horizontally but you would have the added dimensions of the ledges.
That way the whole look is square-ish (as opposed to tiered) but they are just different ledges and dimensions 3D wise. You could even paint a few circles on the squares to mimic the curtains.
I don't think I made any sense with that comment, but that is my idea.
i think you've already done a good job with the black framed photos. i'm glad your mom did those curtains- they're awesome and now you have a jumping off point. just don't be timid and do the rest. or better yet, let me come out there for a week and spend your money and i'll do it!
Cute curtains!! and I wish i had a really clever way for you to hide that fireplace :)
Ok, well call me the odd ball, but I love the pictures, the fireplace and the curtains. I like you put the pictures there in black frames, I can think of cute ideas to paint for the fireplace, but I love it all!
I love the fabric for your curtains! oh to some day have a house of my own... the time will come, I'm sure.
I'm not much help when it comes to decorating. You should go online to hgtv and post pictures on "rate my space"...maybe they'd pick you to come and fix up the fireplace! At the very least you may get some great tips from visitors on the site.
